Paramedicals cannot release pathlab reports without PG Pathology signatures: Maharashtra Medical Council

New Delhi: Clearly stating the stand that medical investigation reports including pathology lab reports, X-Ray Reports as well as ECG reports cannot be signed by technicians including paramedical professionals registered with the paramedical council. The same reports cannot be released by technicians the RTI response has stated

The state medical council was responding to an RTI filed by Dr Prasad Kulkarni, Member Executive Council, Maharashtra Association of Practicing Pathologists and Microbiologists (MAPPM) on the matter

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported about the Supreme court order on the issue of "Who Can Sign Lab reports?", where the order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court order that stated that “Laboratory Report can be countersigned only by a registered medical practitioner with a post-graduate qualification in pathology”

The same decision of the Supreme Court was upheld by the Medical Council of India as well.

Speaking to Medical Dialogues team, Dr Kulkarni informed that despite this, technicians continue to run pathology labs and providing reports to patients.
