How Niira Radia’s Nayati Healthcare saved the life of a two-day old baby?

How Niira Radia’s Nayati Healthcare saved the life of a two-day old baby?

Medical emergencies and complex cases leave the loved ones of the patient worried. Fearing the complications and worst case scenarios, people always search for veteran doctors to ensure the best treatment possible. Similar was the case of Bobby, a resident of Tundla. She gave birth to her child in the town’s Railway Hospital. However, after the delivery, doctors observed a hump-like swollen structure (cyst) on the child’s lower back. As they informed the family members about the complexity and threats of the condition, the child was admitted to Niira Radia’s Nayati Medicity, Mathura.

Challenges faced by Nayati Healthcare doctors

The case was handled by Dr Ravindra Srivastava and Dr Vimal Kumar, two Senior Neurosurgeons at Nayati Medicity, Mathura. Initial diagnosis required the doctors to confirm the presence or absence of any other medical issue with the child for deciding the course of medicines. But, this was the biggest challenge.

To diagnose any other medical anomaly, MRI and Ultrasound scan of the child was required, which could only be achieved with anesthesia. However, anesthesia could only be administered once to the newborn child,

The doctors successfully obtained the scan results of both tests within the duration of anesthesia’s impact. MRI revealed three crucial facts about the child’s condition: fluid in the cyst, veins that connect to the brain were knotted and fluid in the brain.

    The medical explanation

Observing the reports, Dr Neelesh Gupta, Neurologist at Nayati Medicity identified the condition as Neural Tube Defect, primarily seen in the pregnant woman due to Reduced level of Folic Acids (a derivative of Vitamin B). Generally, Adequate level of folic acid is given to the pregnant women during, or before pregnancy, to avoid this condition, but many times due to lack of awareness, casual approach and irregular visits to the doctor, the deficiency is developed in women leading to this condition.

    Treatment at Nayati Medicity

Understanding the complexity and sensitivity of the case, doctors decided to operate and primarily cater to the brain water clot. A VP (Ventriculoperitoneal) Shunt from head to stomach was inserted in the child’s body to drain the fluid followed by an operation procedure on the vein knots. The presence of qualified doctors and Niira Radia’s emphasis on the presence of state-of-the-art equipment in Nayati Medicity helped to utilize time judiciously, resulting in a successful treatment.

The child was kept under observation for two days in the Neonatal ICU and discharged afterward. With this surgery, Nayati Medicity has now successfully performed neurosurgery on patients between the age of 2days and 96 years.

Niira Radia, Chairperson of Nayati Healthcare, said, “The Neurosurgery department at Nayati Healthcare is an end-to-end stroke management center with the capacity to treat all neurological disorders. Our department of neurosurgery is creating new benchmarks by treating complex brain and spine surgeries. As the hospital is located on the national highway, trauma patients often arrive for immediate medical attention. Such patients need round the clock availability of doctors, along with neurosurgery need access to multiple departments such as blood bank, orthopedics, cardiac sciences, GI surgery, etc.

Besides Mathura, patients from other states such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana have been coming to the department for treatment. The increasing trust on Nayati has been possible because of our renowned team of doctors and world-class facilities.”
