Blood sugar tracking by display of readings on Apple watch soon

Blood sugar tracking by display of readings on Apple watch soon

Apple Watch is very soon going to support blood sugar monitoring device for display of readings of blood sugar on the watch.

Dexcom a manufacturer of continuous glucose monitoring(CGM) systems in collaboration with Apple watch, is very soon going to launch improved Blood sugar tracker for helping diabetics and making it simple for display in Apple watch. It is one of a series of upgrades to the G6 and shall be a handy tool for patients to find their blood sugar.

The company has been trying to develop a tracker which enables Blood sugar readings to be sent directly from the company's G6 monitor to the Apple Watch, to ensure a more efficient and responsive service system.

The Dexcom G6 received CE Mark approval in 2018 for treating people with diabetes aged two and above in the UK. The G6 reduces the need for finger pricking, which can be particularly upsetting for young children. The CE Mark means the CGM meets the essential requirements of the Medical Device Directive MDD, relating to laws within the European Union.

The G6 wearable is a continues glucose monitor that does not require fingersticks or Calibration. This FDA-approved Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System works by inserting a small sensor just beneath the skin. The sensor continuously measures blood sugar levels and sends data wirelessly to a display device through a transmitter. The advantage of Dexcom G6 is that users can see their blood sugar readings on a smartphone or smartwatch.

The company is working on the project in a joint venture with Verily for a new, smaller G7 wearable system.

Apple is reportedly working on the ability for its devices to be able to track blood sugar levels without the need for collaborations with partners like Dexcom. A dedicated Apple team of specialists is working on this as the company aims to further the health credentials of its products. The Apple Watch can detect heart conditions such as atrial fibrillation, but it does not offer any dedicated features for people with diabetes.

Apple Watch has become a leader in the digital health and wellness space. It brought the latest Apple Watch Series 4 that has the ability to let you take an electrocardiogram (ECG) that can be shared with attending a doctor. Lately, Apple released new features for its Apple Watch Series 4, including new technology to enable better blood sugar control for people with type 1 diabetes last year. The feature also included synchronisation of One Drop's newest Bluetooth-enabled blood glucose meter, the One Drop Chrome.
