A path-breaking electronic device to display blood sugar readings directly on Apple Watch has been launched.

A revolutionary “Direct-to-Apple Watch” NightRider BluCon for Continuous Glucose Monitoring has been launched to help parents and caregivers monitor blood sugar levels of millions of young children who cannot carry the phone to school. The new NightRider works with Libre Pro, Libre 2 sensor and all FreeStyle Libre sensors.BluCon is an electronic device which reads Near Field Communication (NFC) tags and sends data to any Bluetooth-enabled connected device. Especially relevant to blood sugar management, BluCon works with Abbott FreeStyle Libre, Libre 2 and FreeStyle Libre pro sensors to help diabetic patients view their glucose reading on mobile phones (iPhone and Android) and Smartwatches every 5 minutes

Current NICE guidelines advise routine self-monitoring of blood sugar for all adults with Type 1 diabetes and recommend monitoring at least 4 times per day, including before each meal and before bed.The FreeStyle Libre flash glucose monitoring system is designed to liberate patients from the hassles of glucose monitoring.A small sensor automatically measures and continuously stores glucose readings day and night.

Finger prick blood sugar readings and sensor glucose reading won't always match and in fact are likely to be different. That's because sensor glucose readings come from the interstitial fluid (ISF), a thin layer of fluid that surrounds the cells of the tissues below your skin, not from your blood. There is a 5 to 10-minute delay in ISF glucose response to changes in blood sugar. Glucose readings on ISF have been proven to reliably reflect glucose levels.

Ambrosia Systems, a fast-growing medical technology company has announced the launch of the next version of NightRider BluCon. The new NightRider BluCon works with Apple watch to display glucose readings from the FreeStyle Libre and Libre Pro sensors on Apple watch without the phone. This will help parents of the millions of Type 1 diabetic children monitor their children's blood sugar levels when the child is away. Currently, parents don't have a way to know the current blood sugar levels of their Type 1 diabetic child if he or she is not carrying their phone, which most schools don't allow. Also, it is difficult for young children to carry their phone all the time.

After the initial setup of Ambrosia's NightRider and LinkBluCon app on the iPhone, the user can change the mode to Apple Watch on LinkBluCon's settings screen, this will switch the NightRider connection from the iPhone to Apple Watch and will start displaying blood sugar readings on Apple Watch without the phone. If Apple Watch has a cellular connection, parents can install Ambrosia's FollowBluCon app on their phone and, after setup, will be able to see glucose readings updates of their child every five minutes.
