Doctors save Woman's life by operating ruptured and bleeding kidney tumour

A 45-year-old woman was having haematuria for two months when she reported to hospital.After investigations, it was found that she had bleeding kidney tumour for which she was operated and given a new lease of life.

The average age of people diagnosed with kidney cancer is above 60 years.To be diagnosed with bleeding tumor at 45 is a rare thing in women, said Rajinder Yadav, Director Urology, and Kidney Transplant at Fortis, Shalimar Bagh.

The women had complained of blood in her urine for the past two months and pain in the back and left the side of abdomen for a day, after which doctors diagnosed ruptured kidney tumor, which is very rare, especially in middle-aged women, doctors said today.

He added that a left radical nephrectomy (removal of the whole kidney with surrounding tissues) was performed, recently on her, after the kidney was found ruptured and bleeding with blood clots within and surrounding tissues.

High blood sugar and low hemoglobin made matters worse for the doctors as it entailed anesthetic and intraoperative cardiac risks, doctors said.After the bleeding from a tumour was stopped, she was transfused blood to increase the hemoglobin level, Yadav said.
