Kalwa hospital doctors remove gaint 6 kg fibroid from women's uterus

Thane: Uterine fibroid is a common benign tumor smooth muscle cell affecting around 30 percent of women during there reproductive age. However, recently doctors at the Kalwa Hospital, Thane have removed a giant fibroid from the uterus of a 44 years old lady. Upon detection of the fibroid doctors immediately operated lady and removed the tumor which weighed around 6 kgs after two-and-a-half hours long surgery.


The 44 year old patient thought that her abdomen was blotted due to weight and in this bewilderment, the lady kept on ignoring the pain. It was until she visited the hospital she realized that it was a tumor inside her uterus.

Explaining the case to Medical Dialogues Dr Jaynarayan Senapati, HOD of gynecology at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital told that " The case was of a 44-year-old patient with a lump in the abdomen, On examination we found that the size of fibroid was up to xiphisternum. In removal surgery of the fibroid uterus of 6 kg was removed. Right side ureter was on wall of fibroid. Both ureters dissected keeping vascularity intact up to the ureteric tunnel. Posteriorly bowel was adherent which was dissected and separated. Intro-op and post-op patient was stable and she was discharged home after stitches removal". Dr.Jaynarayan was assisted by Doctor Asmita Patil and Sourav Bhangle during the operation.




Uterine Fibroid weighing 6 kilos

Uterine fibroid is a benign lump that grow on the uterus. The fibroid can range from a size which is hardly detectable by the human to a bulky mass that can even distort the uterus.

Uterine fibroid is common in women which occur due to hormonal changes However, it was rare to get it operated after it has reached this massive size. According to the experts fibroid usually, do not require removal unless the patient is facing difficulties menstrual and fertility or if the size of the fibroid is more than 5 cm.
